PROLENE® (polypropylene) is a non-absorbable monofilament suture prized for its inertness and lasting strength — a first choice in cardiovascular, vascular and plastic surgery.
As a smooth monofilament, PROLENE causes minimal tissue reactivity and passes through tissue with very little drag. It is not absorbed and retains its tensile strength indefinitely, so it is used where permanent or long-term support is required.
Its blue pigmentation aids visibility against tissue, and it holds knots reliably when tied with appropriate technique. Common applications include vascular anastomosis, hernia repair, abdominal wall closure and skin closure.
